Building Confidence with the Concept of Flow
Today’s article is about the concept of flow, which has been so crucial to my successes in life. Also, it’s a key factor in living a life where you’re perpetually building of confidence. It is the art of letting go. The ability to let EVERYTHING in life add to your positive momentum. It is so powerful, and yet most people are completely resistant to it. Let me explain.
Events happen. Whether or not they are judged as good or bad is completely a human characteristic. It’s what we bring to the event. Events are just events. They only trigger negative or positive emotions, feelings, and repercussions in us because of the meanings and power we give to the event. An event can only rob us of confidence if we let it.
Now I’m not telling you not to judge anything. It’s what humans do and it’s part of life. But if you consciously remove negative meanings from events, or at the very least stop allowing undesirable events to have any power over you, your life will change for the better. Want to know how to build confidence? Start here!
The reason most people don’t achieve the successes they are looking for in life is because of their focus and attention. Where they put their energy is unproductive. Anytime you are thinking about something or acting under an events influence, you are putting your energy into it. Where have you put your energy and focus so far today? Are these focuses helping you build confidence or lose it? (hint: Constantly thinking about your ex-girlfriend will consistently lower your confidence)
Most people say “I want to make more money!” but the majority of their energy and consciousness is focused on the lack of money they have, or why they hate those snobby rich people, or a million other dis-empowering things. The same goes for “I want to have a girlfriend!” or “I want to bang a million gorgeous women!” or “I want to become more confident!”.
So, let’s dive back into the concept of “flow”.
Where is the power from this concept? Well, because I choose to flow, everything that happens in my reality is positive! It makes me have the momentum of a beast, a walking titan. Let’s talk about an example of this directly from my life.
When I was 17 I was about 260 lbs, loved playing football, and was pretty damn beastly at it. Then I fractured my spine and herniated a disk in my low back. Ouch! Power lifting and football were really out of question now. So, I dropped a bunch of weight, got my abs in killer shape to support my back while it healed (over the next two years), and then played rugby in college instead of football.
We took my college rugby program from an unranked division II program to a top 20 in the nation division I program. It was my favorite sport I’ve ever played and I was obsessed with it.
Just as I really came into my own in rugby, really starting to dominate the pitch, I tore my rotator cuff in my left shoulder. Without surgery that takes about a year and a half to heal. Rugby done.
So I flowed on over to Muay Thai kickboxing and began training and LOVED it. I did that for about two years and then one night stupidly tried to break a board which was way too thick and broke my hand. Muay Thai done.

Well I can’t sit on my ass for 5 months while my hand heals, so I started training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Currently, I’m absolutely obsessed with it and will probably never stop training it as long as I live. It’s my most favorite physical activity I’ve ever participated in and has brought my fitness to an unprecedented level.
How does this illustrate the concept of flow?
Well, I could have spent all my time upset about breaking my back and not playing college football. I could be that guy in the bar sitting around talking about the glory days before I broke my back. Same with when I got knocked out of rugby, or Muay Thai. But the flow must go onward!! A river doesn’t hit a bend and stop, it flows around on it’s way to the ocean!
The reason I call this post “Building Confidence with the Concept of Flow” is because that’s all you have to do to start building confidence at a rapid pace, let go and start flowing!
Let go of your outcome orientations, your judgments of good or bad, your resistance to life! Life flows, and if you want life to flow through you, you have to flow as well.
This can also be directly illustrated in learning how to pick up girls, and building confidence. You can easily build momentum while getting “blown out” by groups of girls at the club, as long as you take everything as positive flow! If I start my night approaching four groups of girls who all hate me, I just bounce off it like a pinball and keep on flowing. It all adds to my positive momentum and it all builds my confidence because I let it. You will know how to build confidence when nothing negative enters your reality. Then, everything you do just builds your momentum like a boulder rolling downhill. Even if it smashes a few trees along the way, this boulder won’t stop!
Letting go and flowing will bring so much power and confidence into your reality. By realizing the power that lies in this concept, you will be much less emotionally reactive. You will control your own reality with much greater precision because you will not be phased by events. Events are just events, and EVERYTHING adds to YOUR flow.
